Inabox Evergreen colour 38L Heavy Duty container uses 100% recycled material as more sustainable choice for outdoor use

Sustainability

Sustainability at Inabox

At Inabox, we recognise our influence on the environment as a manufacturer of plastic homewares and organisation solutions.

That’s why with small, positive changes already implemented or underway, plus further initiatives to come, we’re aiming to build a better tomorrow.

We've undertaken a thorough emissions baseline assessment with an external Australian sustainability consultancy following the GHG Protocol’s carbon accounting principles, and we continue to measure our emissions each year. In future, we’ll use these assessments to set emissions reduction commitments for Inabox.

We’ll be excited to create and share these sustainability goals once they’re set, but for now, we’re equally excited to share some of the small changes we’ve implemented across our sustainability journey so far. You can read them below.

Inabox 100% recycled plastic used for heavy duty container range

Our products

Driven by innovation, our initial focus for new and refreshed Inabox storage solutions is to use recycled plastics wherever possible.

By aiming to use more recycled materials in our ranges, we’re looking forward to helping contribute to a circular economy by reducing our reliance on the fossil fuels needed to produce new plastic.

We’re proud to have already achieved the following:

  • From 2020 to 2025, all Inabox products were made, on average, from 80% recycled plastics.

  • Our currently-ranged Heavy Duty Containers (‘Iron Black’) are made from 100% recycled plastic. Our Heavy Duty Removable Divider is also made from 100% recycled plastic, whilst our Heavy Duty Insert Tray is made from 77% recycled plastic.

  • Our range of storage solutions aren’t designed for single-use, and the majority can be used for many years.

Product packaging

Through our Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) membership, we’re continually optimising and improving the sustainability of our packaging.

We’re committed to providing accurate recycling and disposal information on all Inabox product packaging. To assist you in knowing what and how to recycle product packaging, we’re in the process of implementing the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) program across all of our product packaging. The ARL Program is an evidence-based system for Australia and New Zealand and it provides on-pack labelling to clearly outline how to correctly dispose of product packaging.

In addition to our APCO membership, we’re proud to have made the following packaging improvements:

  • We’ve removed the shrink wrap packaging from our Stackable Shoe Box range and replaced it with 100% recycled cardboard.

  • Packaging labels across almost all Inabox ranges are made from 100% recycled paper and have been printed-on using water soluble ink. These labels are also 100% recyclable in Australia.

Inabox made with sustainability in mind

Waste reduction

Whilst our business is making some changes to be more progressive and accountable for its environmental impact, we’d like to empower our community of organisers to drive positive changes too. So how can you help?

Our Inabox ranges aren’t designed for single-use and can be used for many years. However, if your pre-loved Inabox containers are needing a new home, instead of sending them to landfill, we encourage you to donate, re-purpose or even sell your containers to keep them in use for as long as possible. Some clever ideas we’ve seen for container-repurposing include garden planters, and crafting or school projects. Or if you’d prefer to donate your containers you could reach out to your local op-shop, community centre, friends and family, or check your local buy/sell/donate groups on social media. For more ideas, please see our blog.

It’s also important to remember that - throughout Australia - requirements for plastic recycling do differ considerably between local councils, and kerbside recycling is primarily designed for processing grocery and general household packaging items. As a result, we cannot claim that our plastic storage containers can be safely recycled via kerbside collection at its end of life.
